Each year since 2016, WCC presents an award based on personality, leadership, team work and work ethic in memory of Logan Chalack of Wendon Holsteins, a past WCC participant and Holstein breeder.
Logan Chalack of Wendon Holsteins passed away on June 28th, 2016, after a short battle with Cancer. He had a great passion for cattle breeding & livestock genetics and was a great supporter of Western Canadian genetics. Logan was a great judge of cattle and had amazing cow sense.
He helped to build the Wendon Herd along-side his parents, Don and Wendy, to what it is today and was a key player in the new robot barn expansion in 2015. Wendon’s success in breeding is apparent through 2 MasterBreeder Shields and 11 All-Canadian Nominees. At the 2016 National Holstein Convention show Logan and his family’s enthusiasm and preparation paid off with Wendon bred cattle capturing Grand and Reserve Champion along with winning Breeders Herd and Premier Breeder and Exhibitor. Logan and his sisters Linsey and Jillian were active 4-H members in both beef and dairy. Logan was also involved in the Angus business with his mom, Wendy and enjoyed breeding and dabbling in project steers.
There is no place Logan loved to be more than at home in his barn with his cows, or spending time with his family. He was an amazing husband to Charity, father to Chloe, brother to Linsey and Jillian
(Scott) and nieces and nephews: Paige, Nathan and Marshall, & his niece Maddyn & nephew Miller who were born after his passing. He was a bright light, loved by all who knew him, a good friend to so many. Logan was kind, generous and smart and loved nothing more than to make a deal or buy or sell a good cow. He was a leader in everything he did, had amazing work ethic, was a team player and he had a great zest for life. Logan loved to play pranks on his friends but was never mean or cruel when doing so and he always accepted payback graciously. There are very few who knew him that did not have an entertaining Logan story.
Logan’s life was much too short, but we can all take a page from his story in that he lived every day and each moment to the fullest. He filled it with laughter, fun and adventure and passion for his family, friends and his livelihood.
